September Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, September 28th
6:00pm - 8:30pm
Doors Open at 5:30pm
O'Malleys on 4th Avenue
Jack Daniel's Stage
If you can play a musical instrument, sing, write, record and/or mix music at any level of proficiency and would like to meet and collaborate with other like-minded and talented people to exercise and grow your musical talents, you should strongly consider joining the Tucson Musician Club.
We are currently in our 4th year as a free social club for musicians who represent all levels of development from beginner to working professionals. We're having fun learning from each other, sharing our unique skills and insights, and growing our performance skills through collaborations with our fellow members....we're also making great friendships all along the way.
During our Club's Monthly Meetings (every 4th Tuesday), you will have an opportunity to meet up with many of our current and potential Club Members, get a status of TMC activities and benefits, possibly learn something new, and hear and/or contribute your talents to some live musical performances by our members and guests.
Each month we start our meetings covering some important Club business first followed by Play Time from 6:30-8:30pm. Play Time consists of two 1-hour performance sessions as follows:
1. "Scheduled Performance" hour which entails pre-scheduled and pre-practiced solo and group performances of up to 3 songs per act/5 per band with drums, as well as skills demonstrations and knowledge sharing presentations.
2. "Open Mic" hour is open for anybody to perform (member or guest) during the time we have available with preference going to Members and new performers first.
So, come on out, bring your family and friends to hear the music, join in on the fun, and to provide encouragement for each of our performers. You may arrive as early as 4:30pm if you wish to set-up your equipment for Open Mic, order food &/or beverages from our friendly wait staff or simply spend extra time meeting Club Members .....the proceedings will start promptly at 6:00pm.
If you would like to explore joining the Tucson Musician Club, please go to our Membership webpage for more information and instructions.
As always, our shows and meetings are free to attend, but your enthusiastic support for all of our developing to advanced and professional performers is priceless!

August Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, August 24th
O'Malleys on 4th Avenue Jack Daniel's Stage
Meeting Recap:
Neither rain, nor hail, nor fire from the heavens could keep us from holding our meeting this month. I really didn't think we'd have many people in attendance when I walked into O'Malleys soaking wet from head to toe at 3:00pm. The very dedicated duo of Bill Wilcox and Rich Kentla were already hard at work setting up the sound board and stage when I arrived. Later, Rich and I were commenting on the fact that it was really nice being completely set-up and ready to rock-n-roll by 5:20pm...early enough to grab some dinner and not have to slam it down for a change. Very nice! Thanks to both of you!
Another shout out goes to both Kevin Burkes for donating the drums for the evening and for Gilbert for braving the wild elements and rising tide to get the kit to O'Malleys on time. We had an extra long Scheduled Performance Hour this month that included 100 minutes of entertainment and learning. I had to reduce my up front Club Business time (to nobody's objection), but I made the important anouncements in between our many acts.
James Anderson started us off by presenting "Screaming Quietly" a discussion about performance dynamics. Unfortunately, and ironically, he was interupted several times by a few loud talkers at one table who just wouldn't get any of the hints many of us were tossing their way to keep it down. Half the room couldn't hear what James was saying over the fun and frivolity taking place near center stage and he finally put a bow on it with unused material and time still on the clock. Sorry about that James, next time I'll try to be a bit more aggressive in setting the proper environment for thoughtful learning moments like you presented. We also enjoyed several musical performances by Rick Kundrat, Gilbert Rosales & The Collaboration, Chubasco & Sherry, Skullfish, and we rounded out the evening with Third Stage. We only had 30 minutes left on the clock for Open Mic that was completely consumed by 2 groups performing 4 songs. Our very entertaining and full meeting ended exactly on time. Thank you to all of our new and veteran performers for putting yourself out there, taking chances, trying new things, collaborating with each other, and having fun in the process. You represented our Club well Tuesday night. Congratulations!!!!

TMC Jam Session &
Campout at Spencer Canyon
Saturday, August 14th
Music in the pines and around the camp fire, great food, and camping with friends….didn't get any better than that folks! Bill Wilcox went up early and reserved two large campsites at Spencer Canyon camp ground. Our members put on a free show for Spencer Canyon campers on Saturday evening and one even brought his guitar down to join in on all the fun both Friday and Saturday night. It was pretty cool scene in the pines. At the end of one of Phil Daly's performances, I could hear clapping, whistling, and shouting coming from somewhere out in the darness, eminating from happy campers all around us. All I can say in retrospect is...you should have been there folks!

July Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, July 27th
O'Malleys on 4th Avenue
Jack Daniel's Stage
Meeting Recap:
From the size of the crowd this past Tuesday night, you would have thought we had something special going on in the backroom at O'Malleys. Oh.....that's right....We Did!
Some highlights from the July Meeting:
- We most certainly set a new attendance record for any previous regular Monthly Meeting. As the evening progressed, I kept thinking "We're going to need a bigger venue!" They just kept coming in and by the end of The Gotes set, it was pretty much standing room only with some new arrivals walking in with chairs from the Sportsbar. It was a very impressive sight for a normal monthly meeting...kinda warmed my heart. I'm sure O'Malleys management was also pleased with our club's contribution to our quid-pro-quo clubhouse agreement.
- We welcomed (on the big screen anyway) a record number of newly signed members, and before the evening was over, three additional attendees let me know they were going to sign up immediately.
- We were able to collect more donations toward our Backline Drum Set....three of our donors contributed enough to take home the new TMC T-Shirt.
Yes, indeed, we had something special going on at O'Malleys last Tuesday night.
Thank you again to Tony Cale of DAWN for supplying the drums for the backline and to all of our performers including: Rick Kundrat with Cathy Kundrat, Tom Dukes, and Mark Garris; The Gotes; DAWN; and all of our Open Mic performers: Cancion Franklin, Alicia Christensen, Bill Wilcox, Diane Davis, and Bjorguin Ben
I also want to thank the Board of Directors who invested their time and effort into making the evening a success including: Bill Wilcox, room set-up, signs, and photography; Cisco, stage transition support and donation management; and Matt "Big Daddy" Cuthbertson for running the sound board all night long. Great job gents!

3rd Annual Member Showcase
Tuesday, June 22nd
O'Malleys on 4th Avenue - Jack Daniel's Stage
6:00pm - 9:00pm
Open to the Public
Our Club's 3rd Annual Member Showcase was bigger and better than ever folks! This year, 9 acts performed 33 songs from two stages (Main & Showcase) during our 3 hour, non-stop Showcase of Tucson Musician Club talents. The following Member Bands and Performers were "showcased" during this very entertaining evening:
· Counting Sheep
· James Anderson, Dale Iverson & Bill Wilcox
· Robert & Courtney Boettcher
· Point 5 Oh
· Foo Dogs (Lynn Grenci & Marty Perry)
· The Gotes
· Van Gogh's Mojo
· Marni Kennedy, Cam Cook & Juan Barreda
· Shaky Bones
We also kicked off our Club's first ever Fundraiser during this year's Showcase. All voluntary donations to our club will go directly to the purchase of a professional quality drum kit to be used for our main stage backlines. To-date, we have relied entirely on the generosity of our members to donate their kits for use during our meetings and events. The backline has become very important to our Club....it helps to reduce the total time required to transition from one act to another, thus allowing time for a greater variety of members to participate during Club meetings and major events.
We got off to a good start and our Fundraiser continues. So, anything whatsoever that you can afford to donate will be very much appreciated. However, the following levels of donations will earn you some special recognition for your extra generosity to our Club:
$30 donations:
· A first of its kind, high quality Tucson Musician Club t-shirt

T-Shirt Front - New TMC Southwest Logo

T-Shirt Rear - Word Cloud
$50 donations:
$100 donations or more:

March Monthly Meeting
Blues Theme Night
Held on Tuesday, March 23rd
O'Malleys on 4th Avenue - Jack Daniel's Stage
Open to the Public
Each year, the TMC stands down from the normal monthly proceedings to focus on Members performing music around a theme. With so many Theme's to choose from, this year our Club will hold two theme nights. The first of which focused on the Blues.
In keeping with our Club's Vision, Theme Nights encourage Members to strut what they know and/or grow their knowledge, skills and abilities in areas that they don't. It provides both a challenge and an opportunity for Members to explore genres and styles that they might not otherwise have an opportunity to get involved with.
Once again, we had a full performance schedule, standing room only in the Backstage Room, and the musical performances were smokin! A hearty thank you goes out to all of our Theme Night performers, those who donated their valuable equipment to the stage Backline, for all who worked behind the scenes running sound and the stage, and to our friendly and dedicated wait staff at O'Malleys who really worked their tails off to take care of all of us.
I also want to thank all who donated to our food drive during this event. We generated 3 full boxes of food and over $130 in cash to benefit the Tucson Community Food Bank. Your continued support of our food drives is much appreciated by the TMC and to those most in need of your generous contributions.

December 15th, 2009 (2nd Tuesday)
This year's 3-hour holiday music extravaganza will feature over 30 Christmas songs performed on two stages by over 30 Tucson Musician Club Members and their guests. As always this year's show is free of charge...all we ask is that you strongly consider bringing a donation to benefit the Tucson Community Food Bank. We will gladly accept your donations of either non-perishable food items or cash. If you can't or don't remember to bring food items, just remember, every $1 donated will purchase $9 of food for the less fortunate in our community. Times are tough all over right now, but together, we can help a few of our own. Thank you!

September 22nd Monthly Meeting
As usual, our meetings are divided into two separate performance hours, Scheduled Performance Hour and Open Mic Hour.
· Scheduled Performance Hour is open to members only and must be pre-approved and scheduled prior to the meeting -all participating must have rehearsed the material with each other prior to the meeting. This month, we will feature a couple of bands on the main stage during Scheduled Performance Hour followed by all subsequent performances from the Song Circle Floor Stage....with some PA assist as necessary.
· Unplugged Song Circle - Open Mic Hour, performers who have signed up on the Open Mic sheet may perform alone or open it up for others to play along as we proceed around the Song Circle. It is recommended that any Open Mic performer who wants others to play along should also bring several copies of the sheet music/tab to provide to others in the circle. Not everybody will need it, but it is more fun to open the jam up to others who may not know the song well.
As always, first priority of Open Mic performances will go to signed Members, non-members will be allowed to perform if time permits.
All members and the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend to support our performers. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from our very attentive O'Malleys wait staff.

Songwriting Workshop - What Not to Do!
August 29th, 2009
O'Malleys on 4th Avenue - Backstage Room
Noon to 2:00pm
A note from Matt Cuthbertson, VP Member Services & Workshop Presenter:
This was a short 1-hour seminar for those of us who are mostly beginning songwriters - but even very experienced writers can fall into songwriting "traps" that seem easily avoided, at least in theory. Some thoughts about things you may want to steer clear of in your pursuit of that marketable song, complete with audio examples. I'm not a professional songwriter, but I have written several songs throughout the years and I've picked up some useful tips & tricks along the way. As a layman dabbling in the art, I've developed a penchant for discovering the obvious and I hope this will help you avoid some common pitfalls in songwriting.

2nd Annual "Club Member Showcase"
August 25th, 2009
This year's 3-hour, non-stop Showcase featured 5 bands on the Main Stage: Profile, Ed Wanek Trio, The Garage Doors, The Gotes, and The Railbirdz. We also featured 6 additional solos & combos on our Showcase Stage: Marni Kennedy with Cameron Cook & Juan Barreda, Matt & Tanya Cuthbertson with Connie Brannock & Juan Barreda, Eileen Priest with BC Priest & the Beat Keeping Dancers, Phil Villeza, and Phil Daly with Bish.
A Hearty, Overflowing, Extra-Large Bowl of THANK YOU!!! to all who participated in our 2nd Annual TMC Showcase this past Tuesday night both on stage and behind the scenes. What a great success it was. The performances were first rate across the board, the mood of the near capacity crowd was very festive and energized, the raffle winners were very delighted, we filled 3 boxes of food for the Community Food Bank, we raised some money to help fund our Christmas Show, and everything simply ran like a Swiss timepiece....we stayed so close to "On-Time" throughout the evening that you'd think we planned it that way. ;-)
We've been inundated by emails from a lot of non-members, some of which were sent to us right after the show.....100% positive, saying how much they really enjoyed the performances and the whole scene we've created with the TMC. We even picked up a few new members along the way.
I am very proud to have been a part of such a happening and prouder yet to be a part of something very special that we've created together....the Tucson Musician Club.
Dale Iverson
